Morocco can be visited year round but temperatures vary. Spring (mid March to May) and autumn (September and October) are the most comfortable months to travel, avoiding the colder nights of winter and the heat of summer. But if you can tolerate a little chill then winter (Dec-Feb) can also be a good time to travel, with blue skies aplenty. You may wish to avoid the weeks around Christmas and Easter as tourism – and prices – are at their peak. The summer months from June to August are known for their heat but most riads and hotels offer respite with air conditioning and swimming pools.

Moroccan cuisine features fresh produce and tantalising combinations of spices. Spices are used more for flavouring than to add heat to a dish. There’s also a strong French influence, and sometimes Middle Eastern flavours, in the cuisine. Moroccan food is a delight but if your tastebuds are more suited to a western palate there’s always an alternative on offer.

Tipping is customary. Meals at a restaurant should be typically supplemented with a 10% gratuity but be aware some restaurants automatically add this in so check the bill first.
